Turquoise symbolizes protection, tranquility, wisdom, and good fortune.

In ancient Roman culture, turquoise was a rare and highly prized gemstone.  Known as callias, it was imported through distant trade routes from Persia.  Romans wore turquoise as a protective amulet to guard against the evil eye, shield riders from accidental falls, and heal various ailments.  Due to its cost, it was seen as a status symbol.
